Over time, existing telephone and data cables and jacks can be overheated, stretched, stepped on, corroded, and subject to general wear and tear. To keep your cable systems performing, TRC Services offers inspection and maintenance services. Our 25 years of experience allows us to see cable conditions that may not be obvious. Every system is different. However, in general the following items are checked:

  • Visually inspect cable for kinks, short radius turns, abraded jacketing, missing jacket, squashed cable, and cable management at connections to network equipment (e.g. routers, switches, etc.). Replace entire suspect cable drop as required, no splicing.
  • Visually inspect wall and floor jacks for cleanliness, bent or missing contacts, and labeling. Clean jack ports with electrical contact cleaner and compressed air, or replace jack.
  • At cable patch panels and cable distribution frames, check connection jack points for cleanliness, bent or missing contacts, and labeling. Clean connection ports with electrical contact cleaner and compressed air, or replace jack.
  • At connections to cable system electronic equipment, check connection jack points for cleanliness, bent or missing contacts, and labeling. Clean connection ports with electrical contact cleaner and compressed air.
  • Verify that labeling at patch panels and distribution frames agree with jack point labels.
  • For fiber cable, clean connector end face utilizing cleaning equipment specifically design for such purpose.
  • Inspect cable system for correct grounding.
  • Verify Uninterruptable Power System (UPS) is of sufficient capacity to maintain cable system electronic equipment for at least 15 minutes.
  • Update or develop cable installation drawings.
